A More Earth-Friendly Way To Fuel Your Auto

Author: Administrator
A lot of people are sick of rising gas prices but don't have a clue on how to deal with it. Many people are nowadays paying for fuel-efficient autos to help cut back on the amount of money spent on gas. It wasn't that long ago that gasoline prices went up globally. This article discusses alternative fuels for our cars.

Fuel that is something other than petrol or diesel is thought to be alternative fuel. You have a choice of automobiles that run on solar energy, electrical energy or a combination of electricity and petrol. There is also an option to utilize water to create energy to help save on fuel. There have been a number of reasons why governments and care produces have taken the initiative to make cars that use fuel other than fossil fuels. Europe has tightened the environmental laws, and has levied taxes on fuel, so car makers had to act. There might even be additional restrictions on the emissions of greenhouse gases.

The atmosphere is suffering due to all all the carbon dioxide being released into the air by automobiles run on fossil fuels. This results in climate changes, particularly raising temperatures, and adding to global warming. You may not even be aware that there are automobiles that run on water, fuel cells, solar energy, LPG, and ethyl alcohol. Automobiles that run on LPG, or liquified petroleum gas, are being fueled by a mix of butane and propane. When compressed, they become hydrocarbon gases that become liquid. This fuel not merely provides cleaner emissions but it brings down fuel expenses too.

There are automobiles that utilize solar arrays to produce electricity out of the sunlight, and then use the electricity to run an electric motor, or create another fuel like hydrogen. The solar arrays are set up on the roof of the autos. A number of autos utilize fuels like ethanol which originates from plants. Crops high in carbohydrates, or plants high in sugar are fermented to create alcohol. Brazil uses sugar cane to produce ethanol, and have replaced 200,000 barrels of crude oil everyday. Ethanol powered autos contributed to about 30% decrease in deadly emissions in that country. There is one other type of auto that uses fuel cells, which make electricity and heat out of hydrogen and oxygen. The emissions on these autos are really clean as the by-products are heat and water vapor.

Hybrid vehicles, such as the Toyota Prius, use a few different energy sources. An electrical motor and small gas-powered engine combined creates great results. The types of fuel are used alternately depending on the driving condition. The battery is charged while fuel and electricity are used on the superhighway. Looking at alternative energy sources is necessary in solving our environmental and economic problems.
